I took my wife on a weekend trip not long ago. I was hopeful we would have sucsess due to the fact we were both going to be panning and using detectors first time with them.
The area we were working was a placer claim many many many years ago. I kept finding with the detector what I would discribe as Blobs of metal, like they were molten and dumped on the ground. One that came out of the stream appeared to be aluminum (silver color and light weight) unlike the one I found 20 yards from the stream. This one although light in weight was caked with a chalky white powder, there were some blueish spots in the white chalky stuff and the metal under looked a few shades darker than bright aluminum.
Do you have any idea what these blobs could be?
the deapth of any blobs on the bank was about 6 to 8 inches down.
Please let me know what you think they are.

Thanks much

if it had a old camp site upstream. people do like to drink beer and throw there cans in the fire....... that will give you a blob or 2 of metal. if it was a older site could be lead. not to many other metals will melt in a bonfire
just a guess.

Might be left overs from the old timers doing a fire assay. I have ran accross things like that in the past some were pretty cool and have them in my rock colection. Did you have any luck with the gold?

Maybe a camp trailer burned down somewhere upstream. That would leave plenty of aluminum blobs around.

Melted glass and budweiser nuggets, sounds like. Can you post a picture of the heavy one?
