I am wondering if the GB2 14" coil will give good me depth on coin and relic targets. I have the 6.5 on now for gold. Does anyone use the 14" for this purpose and how has it worked? Thanks.

How deep do you want to go to DIG UP EVERYTHING?.......Really, with a GB2, you are going to be digging up every piece of tin can, etc.

I use mine ocassionally for coins/relics when I come upon an old cabin site. I waste a lot of time digging hobnails, square nails, etc.
True, i've found a few coins(and nuggets) at cabin sites with the GB2, but I usually end up coming back with a coin/relic detector.

Someone tried to give me a large coil some time ago, but I can't remember who or I would put him in touch with you.

Maybe i'll remember.......

Have you tried the 10" coil?

I haven't tried the 10" coil. The BG2 is a new adition to my detector toolbox and I bought it with the 6.5" rather than the 10" for small AK gold; where I live. I have an old Whites 2500/D coinmaster that has brought in its share of material. Since I don't have a big coil for my GB2 I'm wondering if I should get one. Thanks for making the point that at an old cabin site it will probably be screaming with all the nails and such a high freq. My Whites may do better. The reason I'm asking is I came across a used 14". I'm wondering if it would be a good investment to round out the capabilities of my new GB2. My Whites dosen't have that great of depth being a cheaper detector from the late 80s. Rather than buy another coin detector I thought the GB2 with the 14" might give me some added depth and versatility. If nothing else maybe I can just use it for big nugget hunting when the iron trash starts driving me nuts. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

If it's not too costly, go ahead and get the 14" to detect nuggets in an area that it is workable.

Try it out for coins/relics but I think you will find something with a descriminator will work a lot better.

I use my Minelab Sov. XS2 for that as most all iron except large pieces are silent.

Thanks for the feedback. If I end up getting the 14" and spend my time digging up trash, at least I'm digging up something rather than sitting inside. I've got a bit of cabin fever up here in AK. Took my GB2 to the beach loaded with black sand and trash last week. I had to use the iron disc and ground balance way to the left and reduce the sensitivity, but it was picking up lots of old brass and aluminum, no iron. I was at least content to get something in the 10 minutes I could bear to out in the cold. Hopefully when it warms up I'll get into big nugget country this summer. Thanks.

I acquired a used 14" GB2 coil on ebay for $89. Can't wait to get to nugget country and give it a try. I took my 6.5" out the other day to try it out. I had it ground balanced well, but every time it hit a rock it beeped. Am I doing something wrong or is it just beeping when it comes to an abrupt stop against something? Settings were normal, GndBal low, sens 6/7.

I think you are saying that you physically "hit" the rock with the coil?

If so, check your connection at the box and make sure your coil wire is not dangling loose.

If it still does it, you may have something broken in the coil...

Oh, check under the coil cover for a small piece of gold.....that has happened to me.

If you weren't actually hitting the rock, it's common for the detector to beep on some larger rocks when you sweep directly towards them.
Go parallel to the rock and it should be ok.

I think it was just a one time thing. It isn't making the noise anymore. I have my coil cover sealed in place with silicone so I know theres nothing inside. Thanks. It's probally user error if anything.

Make sure the coil cable is securely rapped around the stim of the detector. I have used Fisher detectors for many years (though not the GB2) and that is one of their biggest problems with erratic operation and false signals. Use something to secure it to the stem (tape, velcro) so it can not work free while in use. Rick

I checked the cable and I had it secured, but it had slack near the box. When and if the cable moved it beeps. I think the cable was moving as I was touching rocks and whatever. Also if I touch the connection area with my hand while the cable is not connected it beeps. I'll be sure to keep that in mind from now on. My whites has a fixed cable and I never had an issue with cables being loose or moving to cause a signal. So far I like the GB2, I just need to get used to it.
