The new Garrett Infinium LS is proving to be a lower cost version of Minelabs SD series. I am impressed with the depth on larger nuggets. I have tried it on an 3 ounce nugget that I have and it would pick it up at 29 inches (wow). I have a Minelab SD22000d that would only pick it up at 20 inches.

Also, the NEW Infinium has a try ferrous object rejection feature. For instance you can operate you detector at low discrimination and find your target. Then switch to iron ID and if the target goes away it is a ferrous (bad) object. If it still picks it up it is non-ferrous (good) object.

Also, the Infinium is waterproof to 200 feet.

If you want a high-end gold nugget machine, that can be used on salt-water beaches, diving ship wrecks and relic hunting deep objects. The Infinium would be a great choice. It is $1000's of cheaper than a Minelab GP Extreme. It is just as deep, waterproof and made in USA - why would you ever buy a GP Extreme Now!

Hello Tom,

Just would like you to go to the other forums and take a look. I'm in the process of posting a write-up on the Garrett's unaccurate discrimination and Tone ID. Have you even used the unit?? Oh, how about the SD owners that have them for sale now on E-bay?

I would challenge your depth reports on the Garrett vs. SD any day! The Garrett is not even close as sensitive as the SD, nor even near the GP Extreme. I would love to see your live field report on the 29 inches from the Garrett vs. the 20 inches on the SD2200d. A matter, of fact, several of use would like to see it in person, as we all have SD/GP's! I'm willing to even video tape the test, you interested in proving your claims in person?

Great site you have here, keep it up.

Rob

Rob,

Tom test every detector because we believe customer service is number one. As you can on this forum, remarks from some of the people, some of them being our customer, our reputation holds true. There has been a few times that we have lost money, due to that fact also because the customer comes first and we ate it.

If Tom is asked a direct question, he will tell you if he has tried it out, the good and bad qualities and anything else you might want. He gets an average of 300 e-mails a day asking those kind of questions and not all of those are wanting to purchase anything just ask. He don't have time to do all the individual test that people ask of him and I know for sure he is not going to have time to do a video just to satisify you. If you like your SD great, but to come on here and call Tom a liar is not acceptable. Tom has said many times that there is no such thing as a best detector. Tom gave the results of his air test on a large nugget. That is all. Your comments are out of line.

Tom took a Minelab SD on vacation with him when he went dredging this summer for 3 weeks to check the depth on the machine. He wanted to make sure the depth was also deep on this machine. It did prove to be just that when he got a signaled that went down 12 inches in solid rock. After 30 minutes of picking, digging , the target prove to be a railroad spike. One of the great point that the Infunium discrimates out. It has a ferrous identification mode. You don't have to waste time digging objects that you would throw away. I would rather be digging for an item worth something. Also the Infium is $2000 cheaper than the GP Extreme. That is another plus. If you feel it is deeper and refuse to believe Tom's test, great! But if you posted something about your GP Extreme that Tom did not believe, he has a lot more class than to come on here and call you a liar as you have called him. Hopefully we can drop this and you will see how wrong your comments are, but if you don't who cares? Surely not Tom or I. heh heh

Tom has done comparison other pieces of equipment, for example, Keene and Proline. We have club members that own both and have purchased them from us. One proved to be retrieve more gold than the other and that was the Keene but the Proline did not plug up one time unlike the Keene. His comparison was his best friends dredge, who once owned a Keene and even though the Keene did better his friend still like Proline best due to the weight for one and not plugging up. Keene was famous for plugging up in the jet. Keene came out with a non plug jet this year and we no longer have the Proline dealership due to the fact they did not like our opinion so as you can see Tom sticks his neck out with his honesty sometimes.

He wants to inform the public to help them in the future to make a purchase they are happy with, even if it is purchased from a different company.

If it weren't for competion we would not have any improvement with technolgy, food, fishing boat, and detectors etc., etc. It keeps everyone on their toes to make something better when better is out there.

The Garrett Infinium is a heavy machine due to the fact it is underwater but is deep detecting and still can be used on land. Your Minelab is also a good machine with depth but can't be used under water.

I just sold my Tesoro Lobo which I have had for awhile, and really enjoyed. I am purchasing a Troy because it has come with some additional features that my Tesoro didn't have. The Troy is a more costly machine but apparently it has been proven to be a great machine because Fisher is building the detector they want to purchase the patent. I still like Tesoro and for gold detecting it is one of the best along with be very light weight, and easy to use, two of my own favorites.

My main point here is to let you know that when you ask for our opinion you will get the truth unlike some people. An example, You go buy a farm and see nothing put old Fords they have used in the past and they are now driving a new one, you will never see a Chevy in his yard probably because he hasn't tried one out. I like Fords a lot but Tom, my husband likes Chevys. You have the right to stay with what you like but it doesn't hurt to see what is out there if you want to try it. By the way I own a JEEP mainly because it is built for 4 wheeling but as far as a great ride, like a Ford the Ford definitely beats my Jeep hands down. I have always driven foreign cars, because of their preformance in handling. I recieved an e-mail from a friend with which companies of foreign produce supported the USA. After that information I purchased my Jeep.

Variety is a good thing plus it keeps companies on their toes to always be looking for improvments on what they sell.

Tom, keeps up on all the latest and I am glad he does it and tells me about it later. I would rather be cruising in my Jeep than reading about products and keeping up on everything. Life would be boaring with people having different opinions and taste ::):):):):):)

This is just my opinion.

Hi Deb and Tom

I know if Tom says that it was 29" then it was 29". I don't know but it looked like Rob don't know that it was an air test. Anybody that knows Minelab don't air test good at all. There a big different between air and hot ground. So you can’t say if it air test better then it must be better.

Boy Tom I can't believe how big your site has become. Good going old friend.

I was wondering why there is no more info on the Infinum? Seems like it was a hot item with every one talking. Now nothin. Still would like one, but not sure now. I looked on several forums, but no talk any more. STEPHAN

That's cause everytime we post something positive, all the garret bashers and Minelab lovers get all hot and bothered, and even tho they've never tried one, post all sorts of nonsense. So, we've all learned to not say anything anymore. People who are really interested will go to a dealer and find out for themselves, and that's where it counts.

Has anyone used an Infinium in Hawaii? Still trying to decide what to get. The Excalibur did not work in sand or water, too much interference from military radio/sonar I was told. The White's IDX Pro was good in dry sand, but not on the wet sand.

Which other detectors has someone tried with some decent results?

Like to hear you opinion!!
Thanks,
Mary
