E-1 LOWER ELK CREEK CLAIMSLOCATIONRIVER: Elk CreekCOUNTY: Siskiyou CountySTATE: CaliforniaABOUT THE CLAIMHave a primitive access road leading to them, which can be found 1.9 miles up Elk Creek Road, on the right hand side. The New 49'ers do not have a New 49'er directional sign posted here at the request of local private property owners, but the access road is available to our members. It is not difficult to find because it is the only one leading toward the creek within the vicinity. There is a Forest Service "Sale Area Boundary" sign posted just beyond this access road. The access road is narrow and bumpy and extend .33 of a mile down to the creek. I suggest you look before driving in! There is no room to turn a trailer around at the bottom. Because there is so little room at the bottom, the New 49'ers ask members do not camp down there. The upper creek boundary is posted on a tree several hundred yards downstream form the road access point. The lower boundary is also posted on a tree alongside the creek. PROSPECTSBecause of the difficult access, very little prospecting has been done on this claim. However, this section of Elk Creek is proven to carry rich gold deposits, so the prospects look excellent. |
