I-5 LITTLE SOUTH FORK OF INDIAN CREEK CLAIMSLOCATIONRIVER:Indian CreekCOUNTY:Siskiyou CountySTATE:CaliforniaABOUT THE CLAIMCan be located by crossing the South Fork bridge located 7.4 miles up Indian Creek Road from Happy Camp. Take the left fork .1 of a mile up South Fork Road onto Forest Service road #17N32 and cross the South Fork bridge. There is another fork in the road about 4.4 miles up this road. Stay to the right on #17N32. You will reach a low water bridge crossing 1.4 miles further along. This is located on the I-5 claims. Just after going across the low water crossing, there is a primitive access road to the left, which follows Little South Fork for some distance. There is camping along the way. I suggest you look before driving in. The lower creek boundary is a long way downstream, near the confluence with South Fork of Indian Creek. The upper boundary is so far up the creek, the sign may be difficult to find. PROSPECTSEarly on, a member claimed that he dredged a lot of gold from the creek, just upstream from the low water crossing. Other members have tried in the same location and were not able to reach bedrock. There are a lot of boulders! Otherwise, very little testing has been done. |
