K-27 DILLON CREEK CLAIMSLOCATIONRIVER:Klamath RiverCOUNTY:Siskiyou CountySTATE:CaliforniaAre located 20 miles downriver from Happy Camp. The upriver boundary sign is posted on a tree alongside Hwy. 96 about .3 mile upriver from Dillon Creek. There is a Forest Service Fee campground at Dillon Creek. About a half mile further downriver, just before crossing the Klamath River bridge, an old road follows the river around and leads into one of our campgrounds. The road is not bad, but there is not much space to turn a vehicle around, so it is a good idea to look before you drive in. This is the lower end of a substantial old hydraulic mining cut which extends up the hillside, and some members have had luck finding gold nuggets with their metal detectors. Our downriver boundary is posted on a tree alongside Hwy. 96 about .8 mile downriver from the Klamath River bridge PROSPECTSThis is another historically rich section of the Klamath River. Members recovered a rich dredging deposit alongside the rapids just downriver from the Klamath River bridge. Members have also reported good highbanking on the gravel bar underneath, and just upriver, from the Klamath River bridge. There was another report of gold being dredged along the bank, on the Hwy. 96 side of the river, a short distance below the Klamath River bridge. There is still remains excellent potential on this claim. |
