K-9 NEGRO CREEK CLAIMSLOCATIONRIVER:Klamath RiverCOUNTY:Siskiyou CountySTATE:CaliforniaThe up river boundary is located 4 miles down the Klamath from its confluence with the Scott River, just down river from the cable car which extends across the Klamath. There is a small campground located on a short side ride between Hwy. 96 and the river. There is private property between Hwy. 96 and the Klamath, toward the down river end of the claim, so access must be done from further upstream. I have camped on this claim and they have a real nice campground. The water looks a little swift for dreging though. PROSPECTSTo our knowledge, this claim has not yet been tested - even though this section of river carried rich gold deposits during the earlier days of mining. There are substantial old mine workings on the far bank, and Negro Creek had a good history. Also, commercial dredgers located a rich deposit on the private property located just down river from this claim. |
