San Lee Park, location can be reached by taking State Route 1521 from Sanford and turning right on the Pumping Road. Gold nuggets occur in the creek that flows out of the reservoir at the Sanford water works and pumping station northeast of Sanford. Many people have panned gold in this creek. The largest nuggets found are about twice the size of an average pinhead. I went down there and sampled micro gold in astream in the park. They allow panning and maybe sluicing. Traced gold up to where old timers used mercury on some of the trails up in the woods. I am not sure of the rules now, because I did this in 1986.
